JRC-REFLEX launches AIR STRIPE an innovative breathable retro-reflective fabric.
With AIR STRIPE, JRC-REFLEX, a manufacturer of retro-reflective materials, is introducing its first BREATHABLE reference offering a light-reflecting safety solution engineered for active uses.
Featuring fine reflective lines, AIR STRIPE is the latest patented technology to come out of JRC-RELFEX’s R&D lab in Bergamo, Italy. “We created this new reference in response to long-standing requests from our activewear brand customers in running and cycling who were looking for a retroreflective fabric offering advanced BREATHABILITY”. By combining safety in low light conditions, elasticity and breathability, AIR STRIPE fills a gap in the market for retro-reflective fabrics. Tests have shown that the new AIR STRIPE reference has an evaporative resistance, or Ret, a common measure of air passage or breathability, of 5. This is considerably better than standard waterproof-breathable laminates, which are in the order of 13 Ret.
The superior breathability also significantly speeds up the drying times. In the company’s traditional ranges, the glass microbeads, which reflect light back to the source of light, are embedded in a coating. The coating ensures that the fabric or trimming will endure wear and maintain high quality performance over time. With AIR STRIPE, JRC-REFLEX has developed a new process that applies the microbeads in fine lines, letting air passage through the non-coated portion of the fabric. Air permeability is what allows a garment to regulate heat and accelerate the evaporation of moisture.
The construction of AIR STRIPE by JRC-REFLEX has the added benefit of making the fabric lighter weight by 30%, an additional performance feature that elite and amateur athletes alike will appreciate. Offering superior comfort without sacrificing security, this breakthrough technology will allow JRC-REFLEX’s AIR STRIPE to be used in a wider array of products and end-markets.
